Writing Odo value impossible?

I had to replace an IPC on a 2016 S550 and wanted to transfer mileage to the new one, which failed (SBL available). I was curious about this functionality and tested changing odo count on a late edge, kuga, and mondeo without success.
Is this r/o or am I missing something?
